Things to Do, Things to See, Places to Go and People to Meet

Whether you want to see castles, Fortified towers or watch local historic festivals such as the Riding of the Marches and Common Ridings, which are, steeped in history our region has so much to offer. There are museums and visitors centres as diverse as the World Famous Old Blacksmiths Shop or the Devil’s Porridge at Eastriggs and the David Coulthard Museum or Leadhills and Wanlockhead Railway and Lead Mining Museum. There are wonderful Gardens, there’s all the Robert Burns Heritage and don’t forget the other Robert-Robert the Bruce. There is even a beautiful and spiritual Tibetan Buddhist Monastery.

There’s arts and crafts, lots of good eating out and plenty of good shopping. There are wild life centres, there are national scenic areas and for the more active there is walking (don’t forget the Nordic variety) there’s cycling, there’s golf of course, multi activity centres, horse riding, fishing and watersports. There are beaches, forests and there are loads of special events on through out the year.
